The Value of the right Real Estate Investor Domain Name
When you go about selecting your real estate investing domain name, there are some strategies and information to think about when selecting your name which most investors are not familiar with and applying them can give you an advantage. Below I've listed some important insider tips you should be aware of when selecting your real estate investor domain name.
1. Your Real Estate Investing Domain Name must be a .com, no exceptions.
Most real estate investors already kind of know this, but don't treat this rule as breakable, because it's not. The phrase .com is burned deep in the minds of the public, no number of additional TLDs (top level domain, refers to the suffix such as .com .net .org etc.) will change that anytime soon. Remember the .com bubble was .com not .net, .org or anything else. When people refer to the domain names they think of .com, newscasters refer to .com stocks and nothing else.
When valuing a domain name .com's are on average 10 times more valuable than the next popular TLD.
So when you advertise your real estate investing domain name to motivated sellers they are going to automatically type in .com. It won't matter if your post card is right in front of them when they type it in, they will go to the .com of your name that you fell in love with.
If you don't have a .com it's like having a newly released telephone area code overlay in the first week it takes affect, the difference is that when you dial the wrong area code your call won't go through, but if type in the wrong TLD, you will go to someone else's website, probably a real estate investor in another state all together, but they will fill out the form anyway not even realizing that they are at the wrong site.
I know this happens because I get those leads and I've even received phone calls, that's right someone actually called me off a letter that was sent to them by someone with the .biz of my website. Check this out: they had the letter right in front of them complete with domain name and correct phone number. They ignored that, went straight to my dot com and looked up our phone number and asked me if I bought houses in Asheville. No, I replied, I only buy houses in Charlotte, how did you get my number? It took us 5 minutes to explain that I didn't mail them that letter and figure out they should type in .biz and read their letter for the right phone number.
Another reason your domain name should be a .com is that most search engines treat .com domains as superior to other TLDs and rank them higher in the rankings for search terms.
2. Convey your marketing message in your real estate investment domain name.
When your marketing your domain name, you want to convey your business purpose within the domain name itself without needing further explanation. For example http://www.charlottehousebuyers.com/ is better than http://www.carolinapropertysolutions.com/ which better than http://www.greenlighthouses.com/.
You want to convey your message because you have limited time and space to communicate your purpose to motivated sellers. CharlotteHousebuyers.com and a phone number gives the marketing message an two ways to contact you in no time flat.
3. The longer a domain name is registered the more visible you will be in search engines.
That's right search engines, google particularly, give more weight to domain names that have been registered longer than newly registered names. The reasoning is that a domain name that's been around awhile has stood the test of time and therefore the website and it's content are more likely to be of more value.
Another reason that time matters is that google and some search engines won't even bother to index you (acknowledge your existence) until the domain name has been around for six months or more.
